'The decorated clothing worn by the native peoples on the great plains of north america provided both physical and spiritual protection . Native peoples still make elaborate costumes for special occasions, such as powwows.'
What is this made from? This American Indian garment is made from hide . The American Indians used hide because it was a biproduct of buffallo and that strongly believe that anything they take from nature must be used including bones and fur , so when they killed buffalo to eat , they didnt waste anything from the carcus .
''Shirt
Deerskin with dyed porcupine quill decoration and a collar made of stroud , a red woollen material exported for trading from stroud , in England . This would probabaly have been a war shirt , since bands of quillwork along the arms and in the form of rosettes , as here ,indicated military excellence . Probably from the Great Plains of North America . Probably 19th century .
Pair Of Leggings
Soft deerskin decorated with coloured porcupine quillwork and blue pony beads . From the great plains of North America , probably the BlackFoot area.''
''Associated with south . Yellow represents the sunset and is associated with west . Black represents the night and is associated with north . The weavers have to achieve a balance between these colours in their work . ''
I took pictures of these butterflies because i am interested in butterflies , i think they're beautiful. They link to the project because American Indian Tribes believe that butterflies are a spirit guide .
